Highland Park, Texas

Inset: The Katy Trail

Highland Park, Texas is one of the most beautiful residential communities in the world.

Planned by famed landscape designer Wilber David Cook, who planned Beverly Hills, California, Highland Park is known for its lush green spaces and higher elevation compared to the surrounding area's. The town has cultivated a friendly, engaged community and offers a luxurious lifestyle – all less than a 15-minute drive from Downtown Dallas’ business district.

With one of the lowest property tax rates in a state with no income tax, it's no wonder why some of the most successful savvy business men and women call Highland Park home.

Highland Park residents have gone on to make their mark in every imaginable field. The list includes a Nobel Prize laureate, Academy Award winners, Tony and Grammy Award winners, Pulitzer Prize recipients, Olympic gold medalists, Rhodes scholars, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, a Heisman Trophy winner, Hall of Fame athletes, an astronaut, law and business leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists, doctors, artists, mayors, a governor and two valedictorians of West Point and the Naval Academy who graduated in the same year.

Highland Park offers a wide array of unmatched amenities, but arguably the most notable is the Independent School District.

Highland Park ISD

Highland Park Independent School District

Since Highland Park schools were founded in 1914, there has been a consistent effort to build a tradition of excellence in both academic and extracurricular activities.

Today there are a total of seven campuses: four elementary, one intermediate school, one middle school and one high school.

Highland Park High School students consistently score above the national and state average on the ACT and SAT.

Ninety Six percent of graduates from the Class of 2016 went on to pursue further studies at colleges and universities.

  • In 2016, 27 Highland Park High School students were named National Merit Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. In addition, 36 students were named National Merit Commended Students and six were named Hispanic Scholars.
  • In 2016, Highland Park High School was named among the top high schools in the country by Newsweek magazine.
  • HPISD received a rating of “Superior” under the Schools FIRST, the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. The Superior rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of the HPISD’s financial management and reporting system.

HPISD keeps getting better!

In November 2015, HPISD voters approved a $361 million bond proposal - the largest in the district's history. As a result of the election, the district will build its first new elementary school since 1948, rebuild Bradfield, Hyer and UP Elementary schools, and renovate Armstrong Elementary, McCulloch Intermediate, Highland Park Middle School and Highland Park High School.

The next few years promise to be an exciting time for Highland Park ISD as it begins the process of transforming mid-20th century schools into educational centers designed to empower young learners for the future.
